Episode 1 transcript

Let’s talk a little bit about Mobitivity as a concept.

It stands for mobile productivity. Our goal is to be productive anywhere and not to be chained to the office.

At its core, it’s a stack of solutions. It begins with your phone and ends with your servers.
Mobile technology is supposed to be easy to use, right? There is gluttony of flashy devices and a ton of jargon that comes with them. We have Wifi, Bluetooth, Windows Mobile, iPhone, iPhone 2.0, Blackberry, PalmOS, OQO… You know of AAA, but did you know of EEE by Asus?
The biggest problem is making all these toys talk to each other. You have Palm Desktop, Blackberry Desktop Messenger, Microsoft ActiveSync, and we haven’t even touched all the Vista-specific headaches.

Just wait until we get into the Microsoft Exchange and Blackberry Enterprise Server technologies. Ok, I think I’ll skip the nightmare that is BES. I won’t even bother with Motorola’s Good technology solution anymore because it’s frankly irrelevant.

I use a Windows Mobile 5.0 device every day and probably every waking moment. This device is connected in real-time to my server. This may sound expensive, but it’s really not. However, I am getting ahead of myself.

In each episode, I will explore one piece of the puzzle. Hopefully we’ll be able to make a usable solution before episode 100.

As much as I love Blackberry and iPhone phones, I do not use them. Hence, we’ll concentrate of the various flavors of Windows Mobile. Blackberry users, please don’t click away just yet. I have a friend who is a die-hard Blackberry user. How die-hard? Her Internet name is Blackberry Girl. That’s hardcore devotion, if you asked me. I will invite her from time to time to be a guest on our podcast.
To keep you entertained, I will use a Windows Mobile 6.1 device. Yep, you can’t even buy them yet.
